Message Types

- - - - X

There are several different types of messages that exist within Message Center:

  • Regular Message

  • Pay-to-View Message (PTV)

  • Pay Per Message (PPM)

  • Tip/Tribute Messages

  • Scheduled Messages

  • Pending Messages

Regular Message

Regular messages are the most basic messages. Regular messages can contain text and/or media attachments and do not cost any money for a fan to view the content in the message. “Regular Message” is the default when Artists start composing a new message.

Pay-to-View Message (PTV)

Pay-to-View (PTV) messages are messages that Artists send to fans that will cost money for the Fan to view. Every PTV message has a price that is set by the Artist right before the message is sent. The PTV minimum is $1.00 and the maximum is $10,000. PTV Messages will always contain a media attachment; they will never contain just a text message. Here are the types of media Artists can send:

  • Video

  • Picture

  • Photoset

  • Document

  • Audio

To send a PTV message, click on “PTV MESSAGE”, enter an amount to charge for the message, and add the media and text you want to send.

PTV messages with visual attachments will always be reviewed for compliance by our Content Review team before being sent. Attachments will be reviewed as soon as possible; however, please allow up to 3 days for content to be reviewed.

After sending a PTV message, you will see the message appear in yellow in the message thread and have an “In Review” status. Once the media attachments have been approved by our Content Review team, only then will the message be sent to the recipient.

PTV Statuses

Once a PTV message is sent, you will be able to view the status of the message at the bottom right of the message. There are 3 different statuses:

  • Unpaid/Unread - the recipient has not read or paid for the message

  • Unpaid/Read - the recipient has read but has not paid for the message

  • Paid/Read - the recipient has read and paid for the message

Viewing Sent PTV Attachments

To view attachments that you’ve sent in PTV message, click on the media in the message.

A pop-up view will appear displaying the attached media file. From here you’ll be able to view and/or download the file.

If you send multiple attachments in a PTV message, you’ll see preview images for the first 10 attachments. The 10th preview image will have a number to display how many more files are attached to the message. Click on any of the 10 preview images to see the media viewer where you can view and/or download the files.

From the media viewer, you can click on any other file to view and/or download it. The attachments sent in the message will be categorized by file type.

Pay Per Message (PPM)

Artists are able to charge fans a fee to message them. Artists can enable Pay Per Message (PPM) by going to their settings and turning their “Pay Per Message Status” on. PPM amounts can range anywhere from $0.25 to $10,000.

If an Artist sets their PPM amount to $1.00, this would mean that fans would have to pay $1.00 per each message they send to the Artist. Artists can also choose to add certain fans to their “Free Message Fans” list if they don’t want to charge a specific Fan to message them.

This screenshot below is what a Fan would see if they messaged this Artist for the first time. Message Center will clearly display to the fan if the Artist charges per message. Note that Tip messages will not be charged the PPM fee. However, in order for a fan to add a message along with their tip, the tip amount must be greater than or equal to the Artist’s PPM fee.

This screenshot below shows what the fan will see when messaging an Artist that charges $1.00 per message. The $1 next to the Send button represents the PPM fee.

Tip/Tribute Messages

Fans are now able to send tips/tributes via Message Center. Fans can use the 8 pre-set tip amounts or a custom tip amount:

  • $5.00

  • $15.00

  • $25.00

  • $50.00

  • $100.00

  • $200.00

  • $500.00

  • $1000.00

  • Custom Amount: $1.00 - $10,000.00

Tips can be sent with an optional message attached if the tip amount is greater than or equal to the PPM fee.

For example, if an Artist’s PPM fee is $5 and a Fan sends a tip amount of $3, he will not be able to attach a message to that tip. He would need to tip at least $5 or more in order to add a message to the tip.

Scheduled Messages

Artists can choose to either send a message immediately or schedule a message to be sent at a future date/time.

Scheduled messages that include visual attachments will still need to be approved by the Content Review team before being sent.

To view all of your Scheduled messages, navigate to the Scheduled Messages page.

Pending Messages

A Pending Message is a message that is in the process of being reviewed for compliance by the Content Review team. Only messages that contain visual attachments will need to be sent in for review.

Pending messages can have 3 statuses:

  • Approved - the message attachments have been approved and are able to be sent

  • In Review - the message is currently in the review queue

  • Rejected - the message attachments are not compliant with our terms of service; the message cannot be sent

Messages may take up to 3 business days to be reviewed by our Content Review team.

You can view all of your Pending messages by navigating to the Pending Messages page. Messages that are in “In Review” will remain on this page until they reach an “Approved” or “Rejected” status. Once they reach an “Approved” or “Rejected” status, they will remain on the Pending messages page for 2 weeks.

You can also check the attachments in a pending message by clicking anywhere on the message in the row in the Pending Messages table. A new page will appear displaying that message in a chat window.

Pending messages can be removed from the review queue if desired; however, only “In Review” messages can be removed. Rejected or Approved messages have already finished review. Rejected messages cannot be sent. Approved messages can be deleted only if they have a scheduled date that has not approached yet.
