What is Message Center?

- - - - X

The Message Center is IWC’s instant messaging service that allows Artists to communicate with their fans. It allows Artists to send Pay-to-View messages, schedule mass messages to all their fans, create Messaging Lists and more.

How to Access Message Center?

- - - - X

To access Message Center, first log into your Artist or Sub-Store account. You will be brought to the main dashboard.

Next, click on “Message Center” in the header section of the dashboard.

You will be brought to your Message Center inbox. From here, you will be able to navigate to all pages of the Message Center.

Inbox

- - - - X

Overview

The Inbox page is the home page of Message Center. It is where you can view all of your message history with your fans. If you don’t have any message history, the Inbox page will display “You have no messages in your Inbox.”

To navigate to the inbox from anywhere within Message Center, you can click “Message Center” in the top left or click “Inbox” in the sidebar menu.

Each row of the inbox displays a unique message thread with a fan. Here are the components that can be found in each inbox row:

  • Selection Checkbox - these boxes can be checked to delete a message thread.

  • Fan Username

  • Preview Message - displays a preview of the last sent message in the thread

  • Attachment Icon - this paperclip icon will display if the last message in the thread contains an attachment.

  • Pay-to-View Icon - this dollar sign icon will display if the last message in the thread is a Pay-to-View message. For more information about Pay-to-View messages, click here.

  • Time - the time that the last message was sent or received.

Notifications

In the sidebar menu, you may notice a number next to Inbox. This notification number represents the number of unread conversation threads with fans. Note that it is not the number of unread messages, but rather the number of unread message threads. If you have multiple unread messages from only 1 fan, the notification number will display “1”.

The notification number will also display in the Artist dashboard in the top right corner of the Message Center button.

Unread message threads in the inbox are bolded and will remain bolded until you have viewed the message.

Navigating the Inbox

Searching the Inbox

The inbox search functionality can be used to find a conversation with a specific fan.

Click inside the search field and start typing the fan’s username. The search query must have at least 3 characters before results are returned.

If you find that there’s no results for your search query, consider the following:

  • Try retyping the name of the fan.

  • You may not have any messages with the fan.

  • You may have deleted the message thread you had with the fan.

Filtering the Inbox

The inbox can be filtered by:

  • Date

  • Read/Unread Messages

Filtering by Date

Filtering the inbox by date can be useful if you want to see specific messages that were sent during a specific date or date range.

To filter the inbox, click the calendar icon in the inbox header. A calendar picker will appear. From here, you can choose a specific date or a date range. Then click “Apply”. Click “Cancel” or click outside of the calendar picker to cancel applying a date filter.

Once the filter has been applied to your inbox view, the date or date range will appear to the left of the calendar icon. To get rid of the date filter, click the “x” located on the right side of the date filter.

Filtering by Read/Unread Messages

To filter the inbox by Read/Unread messages, click the “Filter by” dropdown in the inbox header. The dropdown will show 3 options:

  • All - displays all messages, both read and unread.

  • Read - displays messages that you have already read.

  • Unread - displays messages that are unread.

Sorting the Inbox

Sorting the inbox will change the order of the message threads. To sort the inbox, click the “Sort by” dropdown in the inbox header. The dropdown will show 2 options:

  • Newest- will display messages from newest to oldest; this the default sorting view for the inbox

  • Oldest - will display messages from oldest to newest

Deleting Message Threads

To delete message threads, click on the checkbox that is located on the left side of the recipient name. One message thread or multiple message threads can be selected at a time. When at least 1 message thread has been selected, the trash icon will appear. Click the trash icon to delete the message thread(s).

A confirmation pop-up will appear. Click “Delete” to delete the message thread(s). Click “Cancel” to cancel deleting the message threads.

Message Threads

- - - - X

Viewing Existing Message Threads

Message threads refer to conversations that you have with a Fan. Your existing message threads can be found in your inbox. To view a message thread with a user, simply click on the row that contains the user’s name in the inbox.

Composing a New Message

Click “Compose New Message” to start a new message with a user.

The “Compose New Message” page will appear.

Selecting Recipients

Selecting Individual Recipients

Click the search bar in the header to start searching for recipients to send a message to. Note that you are only able to send messages to fans that are in your Contacts. If you do not have any fans in your contacts, you will not be able to search for anyone.

Start typing the username of the fan you want to send a message to. After a minimum of 3 characters, search results will appear to assist you to help find the specific user you’re looking for. If you can’t find the user you’re looking for, there could be a few possible reasons why:

  • The spelling of the fan’s username is incorrect.

  • The fan you’re searching for is not on your contact list.

  • The fan you’re searching for has deleted their account.

Once you see the Fan appear in the search results, click their name and they will be selected as a recipient.

You’re now ready to send a message to the Fan.

Selecting Multiple Recipients

Artists can choose to send a message to more than just 1 fan at a time and also to Messaging Lists (learn more about Messaging Lists here). To select multiple fans, search for each individual user and click on their username once they appear in the search results. You can choose as many fans as you like.

Once you’re done selecting all the recipients, click anywhere outside of the search field.

You will notice the search field area change to show a plus sign on the left and, if your recipient list is long enough, a dropdown arrow on the right.

Clicking the plus sign icon will bring you back to the previous view to allow you to search and enter in more recipients to add to the recipient list.

Clicking the dropdown arrow on the right will show a scrollable list of the rest of the fans on the recipient list. You can remove a user from the recipient list by clicking on the “X” to the left of their username.

Once you are satisfied with your recipient list, click outside of the recipient area and begin typing your message. Keep in mind that even though the message will be sent to all the fans in the recipients list, they will all individually receive the message – the message won’t be sent as a group message.

If you find yourself repeatedly sending messages to the same group of users, consider adding them to a Messaging List.

Sending a Message to All Fans

Artists have the ability to send a message to all of the fans on their contact list at the same time. After clicking “Compose New Message”, click the checkbox next to “Send to All Fans” in the top right header.

The recipient list will display “All Fans”.

Keep in mind that even though the message will be sent to all the fans in your recipients list, they will all individually receive the message – the message won’t be sent as a group message.

Message Types

Regular vs Pay to View Messages

Once you’ve selected your message recipients, it’s time to send a message. At the bottom of the message thread page are 2 tabs for the 2 different message types:

  • Regular Message - this message will be immediately viewable to the recipient and will not cost any money to view

  • Pay to View (PTV) Message - this message will be initially locked and will require the fan to pay a certain price set by the Artist; PTV messages must contain a media file; PTV messages cannot contain only text.

Sending a Regular Message

To send a regular message, click the Regular Message tab right above the message field box at the bottom of the page. You will know if it’s selected by checking for the pink line underneath the message type. Regular Message is always set as the default message type.

Sending a PTV Message

To send a PTV message, click the PTV Message tab right above the message field box at the bottom of the page. “PTV Message” will become underlined and a price field input will appear to the right.

Every PTV message must have a price set for it. The minimum is $1.00 and the maximum is $10,000. If you attempt to input an amount below the minimum or above the maximum amounts, you will see an error message.

Once you’ve set an appropriate price, you then must select files to attach to the message. You will not be able to send the PTV message unless your set price is a valid amount AND you have a file attached to the message.

Adding Content to a Message

Typing a Message

To start typing a message, click inside the message field that says “Type a new message”.

Your cursor should appear inside the text box and you will be able to start typing.

Notes:

  • Hit enter to begin typing on a new line.

  • Messages can be up to 10,000 characters.

Adding Media to a Message

Media Library Modal

You can add files to your messages via the Media Library modal within Message Center. Note that you cannot directly upload files from within Message Center. You can only attach files that you’ve already previously uploaded to your Media Library. Upload your files within Media Library first before attempting to attach the files in Message Center.

To add media to a message, click the paperclip icon in the text field.

The Media Library modal will appear in which you will be able to select media to attach to your message.

Note that if you don’t have any items in your Media Library, no items will appear in this modal.

Attachment Limits

You can select 1 or multiple items to attach. However, there are limits to the number of items you can attach:

  • Size Limit: 1 GB – you cannot attach more than 1 GB of files to a single message; you can keep track of the sum of the selected file sizes by the “Attachment Limit” information in the bottom left of the modal.

  • Count Limit: 50 items – you cannot attach more than 50 files to a single message; in the bottom right of the modal is a button that says “Selected()” with number between the parentheses. This number represents the number of items you have selected.

Once you have reached the 1 GB or 50 item count limit, you will receive an error message. You may need to remove an item in order to be within the valid limits before being able to attach the files to the message.

Searching & Filtering the Media Library Modal

You may have hundreds of items in your Media Library. To find the exact files you want to attach, you can use the search and filter functionalities within the Media Library modal.

To search through your files, click inside the search bar located at the top of the modal and search for the file name of the item you want to select. The modal will immediately update with relevant search results.

To filter through your files, click the “Filter by” dropdown in the top right of the modal. There are 5 options you can filter by:

  • Audio

  • Document

  • Photo

  • Photoset

  • Video

After selecting an option to filter by, you will see the selected filter appear under the search bar. The modal will only display items that match the filter option you choose (i.e. the Video filter will cause the modal to only display video files). You can add multiple filters by clicking the “Filter by” dropdown again and selecting another option.

To get rid of a filter, click on the “X” to the right of the filter name.

Attaching Items to a Message

Once you’ve selected the items you want to attach, you can click the “Attach” button at the bottom right of the modal. If you want to unselect all the items you’ve selected, you can click the “X” located to the left of the “Selected” button in the bottom right.

After selecting files and clicking “Attach”, the modal will disappear and you will see your selected files in the text field in the message thread.

Only the first 3 selected files will be shown as a preview in the text field. To view all the selected files, click the “# more” button.

A popup will appear showing you all your selected files. If you decide that you don’t actually want to send one of the selected files, click the “X” in the top right of each file preview.

Your files are now successfully attached to your message and ready to be sent.

Emojis

To add emojis to your message, click the smiley face on the right side of the text box.

A pop-up will appear with a library of emojis to choose from. You can even search for specific emojis.

Click on the emoji you want to add and it will be added to your message in the text box.

Scheduling a Message

Once you’ve added all text, media, and emojis to your message, it’s time to send the message. You can send a message immediately by clicking the “Send” button.

Artists can schedule messages to be sent out at a later time. To schedule a message, click on the arrow icon located on the right side of the Send button.

A pop-up will appear for you to choose the date and time for the message to be sent out. Use the arrows at the top right of the calendar to scroll through and choose the date you’d like. Then type the time you’d like to send the message. Make sure to choose AM or PM with your time. Once you’ve selected your time and date, click “Schedule”.

You will see your scheduled message in the chat area of the message thread page. The scheduled date and time is located underneath the content of the message.

If your message doesn’t include any media files, the scheduled message will have a white background. This indicates that your scheduled message is approved to send and is scheduled to be sent.

If your scheduled message contains visual attachments, it will be sent to our Content Review team for compliance review. Your message will remain “In Review” until it’s been approved by our review team. Attachments will be reviewed as soon as possible; however, please allow up to 3 days for content to be reviewed.

The yellow color of the message indicates the “In Review” status. However, your message will still be scheduled for the date and time you chose.

Edit Options

You may notice 3 dots located to the right of the scheduled date/time. Click these 3 dots to access edit options for scheduled messages. There are 3 different actions you can take:

  • Send now - send the message now instead of waiting until the scheduled date and time

  • Edit schedule - edit the scheduled date and/or time of the message

  • Delete message - delete the message from sending

Note that you will not have the “Send now” option if your scheduled message is still “In Review” status.

Message Types

- - - - X

There are several different types of messages that exist within Message Center:

  • Regular Message

  • Pay-to-View Message (PTV)

  • Pay Per Message (PPM)

  • Tip/Tribute Messages

  • Scheduled Messages

  • Pending Messages

In this section, we’ll go over each of these message types.

Regular Message

Regular messages are the most basic messages within Message Center. Regular messages can contain text and/or media attachments and do not cost any money for a fan to view.

Pay-to-View Message (PTV)

Pay-to-View (PTV) messages are messages that Artists send to fans that will cost money for the Fan to view. Every PTV message has a price that is set by the Artist right before the message is sent. The PTV minimum is $1.00 and the maximum is $10,000. PTV Messages will always contain a media attachment; they will never contain just a text message.

PTV messages with visual attachments will always be reviewed for compliance by our Content Review team before being sent. After sending a PTV message, you will see the message appear in yellow in the message thread and have an “In Review” status. Once the media attachments have been approved by our Content Review team, only then will the message send to the recipient.

PTV Statuses

Once a PTV message is sent, you will be able to view the status of the message at the bottom right of the message. There are 3 different statuses:

  • Unpaid/Unread - the recipient hasn’t read or paid for the message

  • Unpaid/Read - the recipient has read but hasn’t paid for the message

  • Paid/Read - the recipient has read and paid for the message

Viewing Sent PTV Attachments

To view attachments that you’ve sent in PTV message, click on the media in the message.

A pop-up view will appear displaying the attached media file. From here you’ll be able to view and/or download the file.

If you send multiple attachments in a PTV message, you’ll see preview images for the first 10 attachments. The 10th preview image will have a number to display how many more files are attached to the message. Click on any of the 10 preview images to see the media viewer where you can view and/or download the files.

From the media viewer, you can click on any other file to view and/or download it. The attachments sent in the message will be categorized by file type.

Pay Per Message (PPM)

Artists are able to make extra money by charging fans to message them. Artists can enable Pay Per Message (PPM) by going to their settings and turning their “Pay Per Message Status” on. PPM amounts can range anywhere from $0.25 to $10,000.

If an Artist sets their PPM amount to $1.00, this would mean that fans would have to pay $1.00 per each message they send to the Artist. Artists can also choose to add certain fans to their “Free Message Fans” list if they don’t want to charge the Fan to message them.

This screenshot below is what a Fan would see if they messaged this Artist for the first time. Message Center will clearly display to the fan if the Artist charges per message. Note that Tip messages will not be charged the PPM fee.

This screenshot below shows what the fan will see when messaging an Artist that charges $1.00 per message. The $1 next to the Send button represents the PPM fee.

Tip/Tribute Messages

Fans are now able to send tips/tributes via Message Center. Fans can use the 8 pre-set tip amounts or a custom tip amount:

  • $5.00

  • $15.00

  • $25.00

  • $50.00

  • $100.00

  • $200.00

  • $500.00

  • $1000.00

  • Custom: $1.00 - $10,000.00

Tips can be sent with an optional message attached if the tip amount is greater than or equal to the PPM fee.

For example, if an Artist’s PPM fee is $5 and a Fan sends a tip amount of $3, he will not be able to attach a message to that tip. He would need to tip at least $5 or more in order to add a message to the tip.

Scheduled Messages

Artists can choose to either send a message immediately or schedule a message to be sent at a future date/time.

Scheduled messages that include visual attachments will still need to approved by the Content Review team before being sent.

To view all of your Scheduled message, navigate to the Scheduled Messages page.

Pending Messages

A Pending Message is a message that is in the process of being reviewed for compliance by the Content Review team. Only messages that contain visual attachments will need to be sent in for review.

Pending messages can have 3 statuses:

  • Approved - the message attachments have been approved and are able to be sent

  • In Review - the message is currently in the review queue

  • Rejected - the message attachments are not compliant with our terms of service; the message will not be able to be sent

Messages may take up to 3 business days to be reviewed by our Content Review team.

You can view all of your Pending messages by navigating to the Pending Messages page. Messages that are in “In Review” will remain on this page until they reach an “Approved” or “Rejected” status. Once they reach an “Approved” or “Rejected” status, they will remain on the Pending messages page for 2 weeks.

You can also check the attachments in a pending message by clicking anywhere on the message in the row in the Pending Messages table. A new page will appear displaying that message in a chat window.

Pending messages can be removed from the review queue if desired; however, only “In Review” messages can be removed. Rejected or Approved messages have already finished review. Rejected messages cannot be sent. Approved messages can be deleted only if they have a scheduled date that has not approached yet.

Contacts Page

- - - - X

Overview

The Contacts page is where Artists can go to view all of the fans in their contacts list. When you first open your account, you’ll start out with zero contacts but will gain contacts once users start to purchase your content or message you first.

Each row on the page is a contact. The fan’s username is listed followed by statistics on how much they’ve spent on you for the following content types:

  • Content - this includes clips, pictures, audio files, and documents

  • Tributes

  • Custom Clip

  • Pay-to-View (PTV)

Each row also has 2 action buttons:

  • Message - send the contact a message; you will be brought to a message thread page with this contact

  • Block - block the contact from messaging you; if a contact is blocked, their contact row will be greyed out; an “unblock” button will appear in the Actions column; for more information about Blocking, click here.

Searching & Sorting the Contacts Page

To find a specific fan in your contacts list, use the search bar. Click inside the search bar and start typing the username of the fan. The list will automatically update with relevant results.

To sort your contacts list, click on the “Sort by” button. A dropdown list will appear with 5 options:

  • Alphabetical - sorts by fan username from A-Z

  • Highest spenders - sorts by fans that have cumulatively spent the most on you first

  • Lowest spenders - sorts by fans that have cumulatively spent the least on you first

  • Recently active - sorts by fans that have most recently logged into their account

  • Blocked Fans - sorts by fans that are Blocked first

Alternatively, you can also sort your contacts (by ascending or descending order) by clicking on the title of the column that you want to sort by:

  • Username - sort by alphabetical order

  • Content Spend - sort by the total amount the fan has spent on your content, which includes clips, pictures, audio files, and documents

  • Tribute Spend - sort by the total amount the fan has spent sending you tips/tributes

  • Custom Clip Spend - sort by the total amount the fan has spent on your custom clips

  • PTV Spend - sort by the total amount the fan has spent on your PTV messages

How to Add More Fans to your Contacts

In Message Center, Artists can’t manually add fans to their contacts list. Fans will be added to an Artist’s contact list if they perform any of these actions:

  • Purchases the Artist’s Content

  • Orders a Custom Clip

  • Tributes the Artist

  • Makes a Phone Call to the Artist

  • Messages the Artist first

If a Fan performs any of these actions, he will be added to the Artist’s contact list. Only then will the Artist be able to message the fan.

In this screenshot below, the user has 2 new rejected messages, which is indicated by the text in the notification popup in the header and also the two red highlighted rows.

Once the Artist has seen the new rejected messages and navigates away from the page, all of the notification indicators will disappear. The Artist does not have to click into each rejected message and view it for the notification to disappear.

Messaging Lists

Messaging Lists Overview

Messaging Lists provide Artists and Sub-Stores a convenient way to group fans together that they want to frequently send messages to. A great way to utilize Messaging Lists is to put groups of fans together that like to purchase a specific type of content.

For example, let’s say that some 25 fans frequently purchase your Foot Fetish content. You could then group these 25 fans into a Messaging List called “Foot Fetish Fans” and then frequently send Foot Fetish PTV messages to them. Messaging Lists make it convenient to target specific fans on your contacts list.

Your Messaging Lists are viewable and accessible from anywhere within Message Center. The Messaging Lists area is located in the bottom left in the sidebar menu. You will see a “Create New List +” button and all of your Messaging Lists below.

Creating a New Messaging List

To create a new Messaging List, first click on “Create New List +”. You can click anywhere within the red outline to initiate this action.

You will be brought to a new page where you will give the Messaging List a title and select the fans to be added to the list.

Creating a Title for a Messaging List

The first to creating a new Messaging List is to name the list. You can give the list any title you want. We suggest naming the list based off similarities of the fans (e.g. Boot Lovers, Gooners, etc.). Note that all Messaging Lists must have a name.

To add the title, click inside the text field in the top left and type the name you’d like. This title will be saved once we click “Create” in the top left. But before doing so, you will need to add fans to the list.

Selecting Fans for a Messaging List

After coming to the “Create New List” page, on the left side you will see a list of fans that are on your Contacts list. By default, the list is sorted in alphabetical order. To sort the list by other ways, click the “Sort by” button in the top right of the Fans list and you will see a dropdown of the different sort options:

  • Alphabetical

  • Highest Spenders

  • Lowest Spenders

  • Recently Active

Additionally, you can search for a specific fan to add by clicking in the search bar and start typing their username.

Once you see a user you want to add to the list, click their name and they will be shifted from the “Fans list” on the left side to the “Selected Fans” list on the right.

You can search through your Selected Fans list by clicking on the search bar at the top and typing the name of the user. If no results appear for the user you searched for, it’s possible that you didn’t add them to the list – check the “Fans list” side for the user.

To remove a user from the Selected Fans list, click on the “x” located to the left of their username. They will be removed from the Selected Fans list and appear back on the Fans list.

Artists will only be able to add a maximum of 1000 users to a Messaging List.

If you’ve selected several fans and want to start your list over again, you can click “Clear all selected”. This action will remove all the fans in the Selected Fans list so that you can start over.

Once you have given your Messaging List a title and have added at least 1 fan, you can click “Create” at the top left. If you wish to cancel the entire action and return back to the last page you were on, click “Cancel”.

A confirmation popup will appear stating that you have successfully created your Messaging List.

Artists and Sub-Stores have 4 different tabs within their settings:

  • Notifications

  • Blocking

  • Pay Per Message

  • Automated Messages

Notifications

Email notifications are enabled by default. If enabled, this means that you will receive an email every time a fan messages you. To disable this, simply click the toggle to the OFF position.

Blocking

Artists are able to block specific fans from messaging and from performing other actions such as purchasing content, making a phone call, etc.

The Blocking Rules table displayed within Message Center will only display the Fans that the Artist has blocked from Messaging. All other Blocking Rules aside from Messaging won’t be displayed on this table. You can sort the columns by clicking on the column names and also search the table by Rule Type, Rule Value, Blocking Feature, or Added On date.

However, any attempt to add, edit or delete one of the rules will result in a new tab opening which will bring you to the Blocking table in your Artist dashboard.

Pay Per Message

Artists are able to make extra money by charging fans to message them. On the Pay Per Message (PPM) settings page, we have 3 separate settings:

  • Pay Per Message Status

  • Pay Per Message Amount

  • Free Message Fans

In order to save any changes made on this page, click the “Save” button in the top right.

Pay Per Message Status

The toggle located in the top left under Pay Per Message Status turns PPM on or off. If PPM is turned on, Fans will be charged the PPM fee you set. If PPM is turned off, fans will not have to pay the PPM fee to send a message.

Pay Per Message Amount

The Pay Per Message Amount is the set fee that fans will need to pay to send messages to you. The PPM amount can be anywhere from $0.25 to $10,000.00. If you attempt to input an amount outside of this range, you will receive an error message.

Free Message Fans

Free Message Fans are fans that will not have to pay the PPM fee. To add a user as a Free Message Fan, search for the fan and then click their name. They will automatically be added to the list. To remove a user, click the “X” located to the left of their name.

You can also click “Remove all Fans” next to the search bar to remove all fans from your Free Message Fans list.

Automated Messages

Automated Messages are messages that will be sent to a fan if the fan performs a specific action. We refer to these actions as triggers. For example, a trigger we have is “First Clip Purchase From a Fan”. If this trigger is activated, when a fan purchases a clip from the Artist for the first time, then the fan will receive an automated message.

Triggers can be turned on and off by clicking the toggle on the left of the trigger name. Next to each trigger is also a text field for you to create the message that will be sent when the trigger is activated.

Each automated message can also have a file attachment along with an optional PTV amount. Automated messages don’t have to have a file attachment but it may be helpful in engaging Fans. To add an attachment, click the plus sign + under the Attachment column. Your Media Library files will appear and you’ll be able to select 1 file to attach to the message.

Adding a PTV price to unlock the file attachment is also a great way to make some extra revenue. The minimum PTV amount is $1.00 and the maximum amount is $10,000.00.

Automated messages do not have to contain an attachment. However, if the Artist wants to charge a PTV amount for the message, then there must be an attachment with the message.

After making changes to this page, be sure to hit the Save button in the top right. If you make changes but then click Cancel, all edits will be unsaved and you will return to the previous page you were on.
